Sierra Veterinary HospitalSpaying and neutering your pet is not only a benefit to your community by preventing overpopulation, it is also a benefit to your pet. It may prevent onset of certain reproductive cancers as well as certain urinary, rectal, and hernia problems that can develop later in life. This procedure may also alter bad behaviors, such as “spraying” by cats or aggression.

Ideally, Sierra Veterinary Hospital will spay or neuter your pet during their first year. Our animal hospital likes to do a new pet exam soon after adoption and follow up with deworming and puppy and kitten vaccines. Our vets usually reccommend spaying and neutering between six and eight months of age.

Prior to surgery, Sierra Vet Hospital will check for retained baby teeth, umbilical hernias, and testicles that have not descended. If our vets find any abnormalities, our vets will notify you and discuss the best possible care for your pet.

The vets at Sierra Animal Hospital recommend spaying and neutering of all pets that will not be used in controlled breeding programs. Our vets feel the surgery is in the best interest of your pet.

For more information on adoption and spay and neuter vouchers please visit the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and S.P.C.A. or El Dorado County Animal Control.
